Are you wondering,

“What is the new Magic Kingdom rope drop?”

“Should I go to the new Magic Kingdom rope drop?”

“Where do the ropes drop at the Magic Kingdom now?”

This article has everything that you need to know to navigate the changes and make the most of morning in the Magic Kingdom.

How has Magic Kingdom Opening and Rope Drop Changed?

Magic Kingdom’s rope drop and opening ceremonies changed significantly in 2017.

  • There is no Main Gate rope drop or opening show
  • Rope drop locations are now at the entrances to each land within Magic Kingdom
  • Main Street opens an hour earlier than the rest of the park
  • Opening show is now at the castle

Rope Drop and Show at Park Entrance Eliminated

The Opening Show, Rope Drop, and associated traditions that so many of us are used to have been eliminated. This includes the Disney Family of the Day.

New Rope Drop locations

Guests can line up separately for the walkways to Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, Adventureland, etc. Planning which pathway you want to use can help you get on the rides of your choice ahead of others.

Check out the map for more information on each rope drop location.

This Disney World map shows where the rope drop locations are in Magic Kingdom.

Which Rope Drop Location Should I Choose?

The Fantasyland entrance closest to the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train ride has had the largest groups of guests waiting to enter thus far as people figure out the best routes to the attractions they want to get on first. Expect the longest waits at this queue.

Try one of the less crowded Fantasyland entrances and get on Peter Pan’s Flight, Enchanted Tales with Belle, or the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. The waits on these rides get long quickly.

Consider going LEFT, and get on Big Thunder Mountain and Splash Mountain without a wait.

Main Street Opens Earlier than Rest of the Park

Main Street now opens one hour before the rest of Magic Kingdom. Guests can peruse Main Street  and all its shops and restaurants.

This is nice because so many people feel they have to rush through Main Street in the mornings to get to their favorite attractions. The need for that has passed.

It is a lot tougher to get the quintessential “empty park” photo in front of the castle now, although…

It can still be done if you have an early ADR or reservation inside the park…

How does this affect early Advanced Dining Reservations (ADRs)?

8:00-8:45 AM Advanced Dining Reservations:

If you have a reservation at or before 8:45, you should be able to enter the park even before Main Street opens. Guests are usually allowed to enter at 7:40 AM.

Check in at the Main Gate with a Cast Member and provide them with your confirmation number. They are usually on the far left of the gate area, holding tablets. You will be directed into a special line for guests who need to enter the park early.

If your reservation is in Fantasyland past the rope drop locations, there has been someone on Main Street (like a town crier) directing people to a stand to check in for early Advanced Dining Reservations at Cinderella’s Royal Table, Be Our Guest, and the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. That has been at a kiosk to the left of Cinderella’s castle on the ‘hub.’ At this point it is a converted cart of some kind, and signage is not yet permanent, so keep your eyes and ears open. You will then be directed past the ropes and into Fantasyland.

8:45 AM and later Advanced Dining Reservations

Enter the park normally, unless lines are particularly long, in which case, seek out a Cast Member and try to get into the early-ADR line at the left side of the Main Gate. Afterwards, check in at the stand on the left side of the hub in front of Cinderella’s Castle, or where directed.

This process is evolving and has not been totally finalized, so it may change over time. Ask a Cast Member if you have any questions. There are lots of other changes coming to Disney World in 2017.

What are the Best Early Morning ADRs to beat the lines?

Early dining reservations at Cinderella’s Royal Table, Be Our Guest restaurant, and makeover reservations at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique will get you past the Fantasyland rope before it drops.

Cinderella’s Royal Table is a character meal where guests meet a number of princesses. Expect it to take at least an hour, or more, so you may lose the advantage of being inside Fantasyland early.

Be Our Guest restaurant is a Quick Service location so you can eat quickly and still enjoy one of the most sought-after Disney dining experiences first thing. It puts guests in arguable the best place access the Fantasyland attractions before the crowds are through the rope drop spots at the hub.

Pro Tip: Guests that finish their Be Our Guest breakfast before the rope drops just might get to ride the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train ride before it is officially open for the day!

Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique is a makeover experience and depending on the package you select, this can take some time, potentially over an hour. This means you will likely not get a great advantage in getting on rides early.

If skipping the lines is not a priority, The Crystal Palace character breakfast with Winnie the Pooh and friends is a lovely breakfast with character.

New Welcome Show at Cinderella’s Castle

There is now a five-minute Welcome Show called “Let the Magic Begin” in front of Cinderella’s Castle just before the rest of the park opens. There is a rope drop to Fantasyland through the castle.

Check out the “Let the Magic Begin” welcome show:
